Some Facts You Should Know
Producing quality emu oil is, and always will be, expensive. We could save some money by buying bulk
emu oil from overseas emu ranches located in India or Australia instead of raising our own birds, but with 18 years
in this business, we have learned that that is a bad idea. As the sayings go, you get what you pay
for and you are what you eat. At the Jurassic Secret Ranch, we raise hundreds of
emus every year to supply our sales. For about the last 10 years, all of the emu oil we bottle and use in our
product line has been from the birds grown on our family-run ranch in Ramona, CA.
Years ago, before we had enough of our own emu, we purchased oil from other sources. We discovered that
some emu ranches that lived in areas where corn is abundant and cheap, would feed a diet of almost all
crushed-corn. This diet would produce pure emu oil, yet the oil had little anti-inflammatory properties and
low absorbency.
Our emus are free-fed with the best nutritionally balanced food we can provide for them. As always, it is a natural
diet with many ingredients that are free of added hormones, steroids or antibiotics. As we found when we purchased
emu oil from different sources in the 1990s, the quality of emu oil varies substantially in its color, consistency
and effectiveness. Recently, the emu industry (The American Emu Association), that I have been a member of since
1995, conducted an emu oil testing study- found that there are plant oils, oils from other species of animals, and
diluted emu oil being sold and labeled as pure emu oil. (Please read the article from the AEA president).
At Jurassic Secret we will never compromise quality.
